Giving back to the community is the heartbeat of Tempo.
Everyone has something to offer or share with others whether it's our time, treasures, or life experiences. We all strive to build a community unique to us and serving that village is an important value of mine and Tempo Granola.
Growing up in a small Midwestern town, giving back to my community was a way of life. Whether I collected newspapers or sold cookies for Girl Scouts (proud First Class and Marian Award recipient) I was taught to reach out and return to others because it's the "right thing to do". Giving back is a value that has continued with me throughout my twenty-five year career in finance; spanning time in investment banks, asset management and project finance. Throughout that time, one issue has continued to pull at my heart:
The financing gap for female funded companies
Did you know:
Women own an estimated 13.3 million U.S. businesses, a whopping 41% employ 9.4 million workers, generate $1.9 trillion in revenue, and are starting businesses at a rate of more than 1,800 per day. (American Express 2018 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report)
Yet only 4% of the total dollar value of all small business loans go to women entrepreneurs with women of color receiving less than 1%.
Investing in women-owned businesses isn't just the right thing to do it's smart business. A study of over 350 startups, Boston Consulting Group determined that businesses founded by women deliver higher revenue—more than 2x as much per dollar invested—than those founded by men, making women-owned companies better investments. A 2019 Forbes article supports this assertion by stating that venture capital firm First Round Capital's portfolio of women-led startups outperformed those founded by men by 63%.
My goals are to close the financing gap for female and under-served entrepreneurs and to create opportunities for motivated, hardworking, and dedicated individuals. Support inner-city students to improve the High School graduation rate in Colorado. Volunteer and support local women and children shelters. Promote a healthy mind/body/spirit community through yoga, outdoor lifestyle and mental health. Promote the mentoring community through teaching.
LIVE YOUR PASSION
What is your passion? This I Believe:
~ Family is Everything. Love those living far away and hug those we choose to create as our family in our village.
~ Believe you are the luckiest person in the world and you will be. I once won
a car with buying a single raffle ticket. Others will use your name believing
they are lucky too.
~ Life is about Balance. So is a healthy lifestyle. Every day we start over which gives us the opportunity to forgive ourselves for yesterday and relish the opportunity of today.
~ Wise words from Marie "thanks and good job will take you far in life", and "if you do something, do it with all your might, things done by half are never
done right" thanks Mom.
~ We are all mentors and interns at the same time. Learn something new, try something that scares the heck out of you, or maybe become a
yoga instructor at 50 yrs old and then take that knowledge to
teach and serve others.
~ The best way to "lean in" is to "reach out". What is your passion and
who are your villagers?
~ Find your Tempo - a beat of your own, uniquely you!
A portion of Tempo’s net profit supports our community focusing on food insecurity, education and homelessness.
